About Us

Zimbabwe is a country acclaimed throughout Africa and the world for its artistry and fine crafts. The arts and crafts they are famous for include stone sculpting, wire and bead art, and wood carving.

Artistry abounds despite the often heartbreaking circumstances under which many artists now live. Due to the recent massive failure of the Zimbabwe economy their main customers are gone as tourism collapsed. Tourism was the main source of income for the artists and craftspeople of Zimbabwe.

Paper crafting and handmade paper-making is a relatively recent form of art in Zimbabwe. A paper making – paper crafting initiative was started in 2003 near the high density township of Chitungwiza by a social entrepreneur based in the USA.

The objective was to help women form themselves into crafting collectives. The crafting infrastructure that has resulted empowers hundreds of unemployed, unskilled women with income-generating crafting skills.

The paper they make is eco friendly using only recycled materials, acid free, tree free and pH neutral. See the papermaking process.

The artisans brand their products under the name Eco Africa Papercrafts and proudly call themselves Eco Africa paper makers and paper crafters. The outcome is a beautiful product line of paper craft gifts and stationery which is carried by prestigious stores throughout the USA and the world.
